Childhood schizophrenia. Presentation of a patient

ABSTRACT

In order to characterize a case of childhood schizophrenia it was preformance a descriptive study of a school of nine years of age with a family history of paranoid schizophrenia and economically unfavorable family exacerbating their psychological and emotional development. He started schooling with high intellectual performance and outstanding math skills and highlighted within their peer group. When fourth grade began with alterations in behavior and decreased academic performance, which worsened over a period of three months. He was attended in the mental health service in his area, some studies were performed and suggested hospitalization; it was diagnosed a childhood schizophrenia. He continues with antipsychotic and psychotherapy and presents with brief periods of remission duration; it is linked to primary care with individualized teaching to facilitate their learning. His prognosis is guarded, chronic evolution and periodic monitoring.
