Behavior of drinking and smoking in juniors Stomatology

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Although the consumption of snuff and alcohol are risk factors for the disease condition, a trend of rapid growth in prevalence is described, whose beginning is often associated with early age of adolescence.
Objective: To characterize the behavior in the consumption of alcohol and snuff in juniors of Stomatology.
Methods: A cross sectional study was conducted on a sample of 70 third-year students, selected through simple random sampling, to whom it was applied a random anonymous survey prior consent to participate in research. Variables such as alcohol consumption, mode of consumption, age at first intake, initial and current psychosocial motivations, smoking, age of onset and initial motivations were studied.
Results: 94.3% of respondents who used alcohol; age of onset was between 13 and 20 years, mainly the age of 15 years (33.3%); 45.7% were social drinkers and drinkers exceptional 32.9%, being the predominant psychosocial fun motivation at home (59.1%) and current support (78.8%) of the intake. 21.8% were smokers, beginning between 11 and 19, where curiosity (47.4%) and imitation (36.8%) were the predominant motivations.
Conclusions: Almost all respondents who used alcohol, behaving mostly as social drinkers, Started from early ages between 11 and 20 years; both addictions fun, curiosity and imitation, psychosocial motivations were most frequently found.
