Drug use and lifestyle in students of Medicine. Faculty of Medical Sciences 'Calixto García Íñiguez'

ABSTRACT

Drug use is significant among college students, so the characterization of drug Cubans and foreigners in the fourth year of studies at the Faculty of Medicine "Calixto Garcia Iniguez" students was conducted during 2010. by using descriptive observational research whose objectives were to determine the prevalence of use of legal and illegal drugs, the criminalization of alcohol consumption and lifestyle assessment by two key variables; physical activity and diet. The lifetime prevalence of alcohol consumption were (84% for alcohol, 63% for snuff and 88% for coffee) and current (51% for alcohol, 29% to 79% for snuff and coffee). Alcohol is the drug most widely used by students analyzed mainly by males, 24% recognized consume weekly in addition there is a 12% risk consumption and 5% have a harmful drinking. The use of illegal drugs was lower than the results reported internationally, falling mostly in males. 28% suggests that performs some type of diet and physical activity 48% done systematically.
