ABSTRACT

Objetive: Assess the distribution and frequency of some characteristics of primary dentition and assess the possible risk of the development of any kind of malocclusion. Material and methods: An epidemiological, observational, descriptive, transversal and prolective survey was held in 193 preschool children from Delegación Iztapalapa were examined. In order to assess the kind of terminal oclusal plane and arcade Baume criteria were used. For dental caries experience, WHO´s criteria. Surveyers were calibrated according to Cohen´s parameters, resulting in this almost perfect caliber (K = 83%, Ca = 91% and Cr = 82%). Results: 36.6% from preschool children presented deep interproximal caries lesions and/or premature tooth loos, it was observed that there was no dependency of these variables related to age (H = 0.0928341, p = 0.937691) and sex (U = 0.04867, p = 0.0973127). 81.9% showed straight and mesial terminal planes and 75.1% arcade type 1. Conclusions: According to the results, the sample showed low risk to develop any kind of malocclusion. Thus, the multifactorial nature of this process is confirmed in which some other factors can have a major influence on occlusion development.
