ABSTRACT

Psychoactive plants able to change the perception, consciousness and emotions, have been part of human experience since its inception and new archaeological studies have not only confirmed this fact but increasingly become more remote experimentation of our species with all them. Individual substances entered the world and disturbed in a unique way. In return each company developed unique modes of regulation of the uses. The phenomenon of addiction (also called drug dependency or addiction) emerges as a state problem as societies industrialize and consumption tied to natural time and religious celebrations give way to the free market, production on a much larger scale wild and consumption practices and unregulated. This article reviews various scientific hypotheses about the sustained commitment of drug use as well as the basics of some regulatory policies.
