Use and abuse of the posts: A literature review

ABSTRACT

Posts must be used only when there is not enough tooth structure to give retention to the final restoration. The idea that the post reinforces the remaining structure of the tooth must be discarded, because in most cases, the post leads to tooth weakening. It is important to review parameters for the preparation and placing a post, so that endodontic treatment and final restoration are both successful.
