ABSTRACT

A 18 years-old patient with a history of myopia, who went to the physician´s office for refractive surgery. The biomicroscopic corneal examination revealed the presence of vesicles and bands at Descemet membrane and endothelium suggestive of Posterior polymorphous dystrophy (PPD). A complete ophthalmological examination was performed including visual acuity, refraction, corneal topography, pakimetry, keratometry and endothelial microscopy of the cornea. A low endothelial cell count may be a contraindication for a refractive surgery in cases of PPD because of the possible risk of corneal decompensation.
