ABSTRACT

It was performed a descriptive retrospective study on patients diagnosed with malignant cutaneous melanoma at the hospital Celia Sanchez Manduley within the period from January 2011 to December 2012 with the objective of describing relevant clinical and epidemiological aspects of the disease. The population studied was composed of 9 patients with histological diagnosis of melanoma. Information was obtained from the clinical histories of each patient studying the variables age, sex, race, clinical forms, topography, extension, and tumor profundity. Malignant melanoma is most frequent in the fourth decade of life with evident prevalence within males and those with white ethnicity. It equally affects the trunk and the extremities for which predominated in like proportions the types acral lentiginous melanoma and nodular melanoma, the latter being related to the greatest levels of profundity of this tumor, as evidenced by an elevated number of patients with extension to regional lymphatics.
