ABSTRACT

A descriptive research of 64 patients with closed abdominal trauma admitted at the University Hospital «Arnaldo Milián Castro» from Santa Clara was carried out since July, 2008 to July, 2011. The most affected were 52 male patients (81,25 %) and 47 young adults under 50 years of age (73,43 %). The antecedents of abdominal trauma which constituted the bases for the diagnosis were abdominal pain: 63 (98,43 %), tachycardia: 59 (92,18 %) and arterial hypotension: 57 (89,06 %), linked to abdominal ultrasonography. Explore laparotomy was made to the 100 % of all cases. Complications were more frequent in postoperative stage. The main direct causes of death were severe hemorrhagic intra-abdominal lesions and multiorganic failure. There was an association among trauma intensity, appearance of complications and death. Diagnosis delay affected the evolution of patients.
