ABSTRACT
Background: in higher education the performance of the professors include their participation in researching activities and their publications.Objective: to characterize the behavior of the publications related to the scientific production of Villa Clara Medicine Faculty professors from 2011 to 2013.
Methods: a retrospective longitudinal descriptive study was carried out; data bases about scientific productivity were consulted for this study, from 2011, 2012, 2013. The population included 173 professors. 124 professors who impart teaching in the central university site were included in a non random purposive sampling. Theoretical methods were used: analytic-synthetic and the inductive-deductive for the theoretical references of the topic and the revision of the bibliography related to it. Empirical methods: documentary review which is reflected in the revised data bases. Math’s method: for the analysis of relative and absolute values.
Results: the numbers of publications by departments diminish every year, there is only one department that matches the number of publications with the number of teachers; it is the Comprehensive General Medicine Department where most of the authors have principal teaching ranks. Most of the publications are found in certified Cuban journals and a lesser number are found in indexed international journals.
Conclusions: there are deficiencies in the scientific production of the professors that are manifested in the lack of systematicness in the publication of their research works.
