ABSTRACT

Melasma is a highly prevalent skin disease, and treatment is based mainly on topic hydroquinone. One of the most important complications associated with hydroquinone treatment is the “exogenous ochronosis”, a hyperpigmentation with a typical clinical pattern. There are also characteristic dermoscopic and pathological data that define this nosological entity. Diagnosis is important due to the prognostic and poor therapeutic implications.
