ABSTRACT

Loose anagen hair syndrome is a sporadic or familial hair disorder that primarily affects children, but may occasionally has been observed in adults. The condition is due to a defective anchorage of the hair shaft to the follicle, resulting in easily and painlessly pluckable hair. The diagnosis is based on the microscopic identification of the typical loose anagen hair that is devoid of sheaths. It can also affect children with dark hair (about 30%). In these cases, however, microscopic identification of loose anagen hair is more difficult because hair pigment tends to block the transmission of light. We report a case of loose anagen hair syndrome in a dark hair patient.
