ABSTRACT

Cutaneous vascular lesions are common in children, and are a frequent cause for consultation. They are classified into vascular tumors and malformations. Infantile hemangiomas are the most common tumors, characterized by their rapid growth in the first 6-12 months of age, and then have an involution phase. Fifty percent of patients with these lesions have a complete involution within 5 years. By contrast, vascular malformations are present from birth, increasing proportionally with the child’s growth, with no spontaneous regression. The management of these lesions is complicated because there is a large percentage of diagnostic error, the treatment will be different for each type, and there are no gold standard therapeutic options .
