ABSTRACT

An hematoma is a collection of blood at any part of the body. In the nail apparatus hematomas are usually caused by a major trauma to subungual structures such as the nail bed and matrix. Hematomas of the nail or periungual tissues also can be secondary to systemic diseases, infections, tumors, congenital or iatrogenic conditions and drugs. We review hematomas of the nail apparatus.
