ABSTRACTObjective: to evaluate the functional state in patient with ischemic stroke (IS) before and after receiving rehabilitative treatment.
Methods: a prospective, quasi-experimental and explanatory study of longitudinal court in patients with clinical and radiological diagnosis of (IS) hospitalized in the Cerebral Injury Service of National Center of Rehabilitation “Julio Díaz Gonzalez Hospital” in the understood period of January-October of 2013 was carried out. 75 patients were investigated, the Index of Barthel and the ranking modified scale was applied at the beginning and at the end of carrying out the rehabilitative physical therapy protocolized in the center during three months to compare the results obtained in each scale.
Results: the age average was 63,52 years, with prevalence of the feminine sex. The most frequents stroke risk of factors were the hypertension and smoking. Like wise the palsy, the sensibility dysfunctions, the language alteration and the psychological alterations prevail as handicapped symptoms and the most common complications were spasticy and shoulder subluxation. The evolution of the stroke in most was smaller than six months at the beginning of the treatment. The most prevalence of neurological disability was moderate to serious to the beginning of the treatment and at the end the most frequent was with light or very light disability. Before the treatment most showed total and severe dependence for Barthel index and at the end most was light dependent or independent.
Conclusions: the early neurological rehabilitation improvement the disability neurological and the independence in the activities of the daily life of the patients with ischemic ictus and represented a positive impact in their functional state.
