ABSTRACT

The hair is the most important cosmetic appendix of the skin. Functions are also involved in physiologic and immunological aspects. The hair is very important for personal relationships, its absence or excessive presence, can cause psychological disorders.
The hair has a fast cellular replication with a highest density of follicles on the scalp. The growth cycle is from 2 to 6 years. Systemic diseases as malnutrition, drugs therapy and psychological alteration can cause a transient or a permanent alopecia.
Hair follicles are distributed throughout the integument with the exception of palms, soles and portions of the genitalia (so-called glabrous skin). Because their multiple functions including the cosmetic aspects hair is vital to enjoy a healthy life
