Infection related with the sanitary cares in the intensive care unit

ABSTRACT

Introduction: The infection related with the sanitary cares is that that is present in an admitted patient in the hospital or in another establishment of attention of health in whom the infection had not been shown, neither was present in the period of incubation in the moment of the admission. Objective: Describing the clinical and epidemic characteristics of the patients with infection related with the sanitary cares in the intensive care unit of the Hospital "Carlos Manuel de Céspedes," of Bayamo, Granma, Cuba in a year (2011). Method: Descriptive and retrospective study where from 556 admitted patients, 47 (8.6%) completed the criterions of associated infection with sanitary cares. For the statistical analysis, they were used as measures of summary the percentage, the reason, the proportion; the arithmetic half and the standard deviation. Results: The infection was developed with greater frequency in sick persons between the 66 and 75 years (23.4%). there was a slight prevalence of the feminine sex (51.1%). The surgical patient was the most affected (66,0%). The pneumonia associated with mechanical ventilation (46.8%) was the most frequent localization. There was prevalence of the negative gram germs. 67 cultivations were indicated, 54 of them were positives. The vesical sondage (80.9%) constituted the factor of fundamental risk. The greater number of infections appeared between the first and the fifth day of admission (42.6%). six patients died (12,8%). Conclusions: the IRCS prevailed in patients with advanced age, in surgical patients and they were caused mainly for negative gram. germs
