Risk of acquiring nosocomial sepsis in intensive cares

ABSTRACT

Introduction: The nosocomial sepsis constitutes an important problem of health in lactating children and it is directly related with the presence of factors of risk. Objective: Identifying the factors associated with the appearance of nosocomial sepsis in lactating children admitted in an intensive care unit. Method: Analytic study, type control case. The universe was constituted by all the lactating children admitted in this unit during the years 2007-2011, and the sample for 64, once applied the inclusion and exclusion criterions. Results: The central parenteral feeding behaved as a factor of independent risk with significant statistically influence (OR= 7.00 p= 0,00), followed by the hospital stay greater than 7 days and the mechanical ventilation that increased the risk for the appearance of nosocomial sepsis in 5 and 4.88 times respectively (p= 0,00). The minor hipoalbuminemia of 30 g/ l constituted another factor of important risk. Conclusions: The parenteral feeding and the hipoalbuminemia minor of 30 g/ l constituted the factors with greater independent influence on the appearance of the infection. With the association of these two factors, it was resigned a predictive model of risk of acquiring nosocomial sepsis.
