ABSTRACT

Introduction: The acting had great importance in order to achieve a higher quality and excellence in the services of health as well as in the satisfaction of the individual, the family and the community. The frequency of intubed and traqueostomizaded patients in the intensive care units forces the personnel of infirmary to achieve and maintain high levels in the acting of the technique of endotraqueal aspiration.
Objective: Evaluating the acting of the personnel of infirmary in the technique of endotraqueal aspiration Method: it was carried out a descriptive, prospective and transverse investigation in the intensive care units of the Hospital General University Dr. Gustavo Aldereguía Lima in the period of September 2010 to September of 2011. The universe was constituted by the 54 male nurses that were working from the beginning of the investigation.
Results: The investigation was developed in three stages. Initially it was characterized the personnel according to years of experience in the intensive care units, occupational level of the personnel and training. In a second and third stages it was designed and applied a guide of observation in order to evaluate the acting properly said, in more than the 50% of the personnel of infirmary.
Conclusions: The highest difficulties came with technician nurses that carried out the aspirations without accompaniment and didn't discard the plumbs after aspiring, not in the same way with those that had between 5 and 10 years of experience in the services that were evaluated as good.
