ABSTRACT

Colorectal cancer is one of the most feared diseases in our society. It is that common, that is essential to be updated on this pathology. At the same time it´s a dangerous disease that must be taken into account in our daily practice, it can be misdiagnosed because of the subclinical presentation that carries on many of the affected patients. In this setting, we as medical doctors must be accurate in identifying the risk factors, diagnosing the disease, and referring the patient to the surgeon specialist when optimal treatment is necessary. This article presents a simple, but updated recompilation of the epidemiology, risk factors, clinical presentation, and principal screening recommendations of this important disease, with an evidence based medicine point of view that will improve the reader´s medical decisions in the future.
