ABSTRACT

Background: Laparoscopy has become the approach of choice in the pregnant patient; anesthesia should be customized for this period. Objective: To analyze the anesthetic management of pregnant women undergoing nonobstetric laparoscopic surgery at the ABC Medical Center. Material and methods: An ONBASE search was conducted of people diagnosed with pregnancy undergoing a nonobstetric laparoscopic procedure at the ABC Medical Center from January 1, 2004 to June 30, 2013; 17 individuals were found. The admission, pre-anesthetic and trans-anesthetic notes were reviewed to find out about the different techniques provided. Results: Of the 17 patients, one was excluded because her procedure was non-laparoscopic. The women’s average age was 32 years old, and their mean gestational age, 17 weeks; the most frequent surgery was an appendectomy, in eight individuals (50%), the anesthetic technique was general anesthesia in 14 people and total intravenous in two. The most commonly used anesthetic drugs were propofol and fentanyl, in 100%, with cisatracurium, in 43%. Rapid sequence intubation was performed in six patients only. Conclusions: The prevalence of surgery during pregnancy, as well as drug use are consistent with the literature.
