ABSTRACT

Background. Pyoderma gangrenosum is a rare neutrophile ulcerative dermatosis associated with autoimmune diseases in most of the cases.
Objetive. To describe the clinical characteristics and associated diseases of 16 patients with pyoderma gangrenosum.
Methods. In a descriptive study from 1985 to 2004 were included all patients with pyoderma gangrenosum according with clinical criteria. We evaluate the clinical characteristics and the association with systemic diseases.
Results. Ten women and six men with a mean age of 43.3 years were studied. Eleven patients (68.7%) had an associated systemic disease.
Conclusions. Pyoderma gangrenosum is usually associated to a systemic disease (68.7%) and mainly to rheumatoid arthritis and inflammatory bowel disease (50%).
