ABSTRACT

We present two cases of renal candidiasis in children. They were diagnosed through direct examination of recent urine specimens to detect Candida pseudomycelium, urine culture for Candida colony count per milliliter and renal ultrasound. Both patients were successfully treated with systemic amfotericin B and did not require surgical management. Direct examination of urine to detect pseudomycelium of Candida and urine culture after treatment were negative for Candida. Subsequent renal ultrasound studies were negative for previous lesions. We sugest that part of the diagnostic approach in cases of Candidiasis of the renal tract should include serial centrifuged urine specimens studies in addition to Candida colony count and ultrasound.
