ABSTRACT

Nevus lipomatosus sus superficialis is a rare idiopathic abnormality of connective tissue nevus, characterized histopathologically by the presence of ectopic mature adipose tissue within the dermis. The rarest form, Hoffman-Zurhelle or classic variant, is formed by multiple nodular lesions coalescing in cerebriform plaques in a segmental or zosteriform distribution. They are often congenital, but can arise within the first three decades of life. The main locations are pelvic-girdle, and gluteus or lumbar regions.
We report five new cases with typical clinical features. The histopathological images confirmed the clinical diagnosis, and excluded others such as segmental neurofibromatosis. We make a review of the literature.
