ABSTRACTIntroduction: Communication in health is a planned process aimed at the motivation and adoption of new attitudes from the public health personnel. Our porpouse was to identify the communication level from nursing personnel, according with their professional level, with the glaucomatous patient. Methods: A study of the transversal descriptive-type was conducted in three areas of the primary attention of La Lisa municipality during the period of 2008 to 2010. The sample was compared between100 nurses of both sexes, selected as technicians and RNs in nursing. The chosen variables were: sex, professional category, place of work, age, years at work, and permanence in the center. For the purpose to obtain information on the knowledge in communication with the glaucomatous patient, an anonymous survey was validated and published. The statistical processing was conducted with the use of the digital assessing SPSS 11.5 version. Results: The feminine sex was of 75.9% RN in nursing and on 89.1 % for technicians. Mean age was of the 38.4 for RN and of 42.4 for technicians both professional categories shown great working experience and a good permanence at the center. In relation to the knowledge in communication, fair and poor were outstanding for both categories. Conclusions: This fact permitted to conclude that the knowledge in communication of the glaucomatous patient did not depend on the fulfilled professional level.
