ABSTRACTIntroduction: The adequate use of the intensive and intermediate care units keeping in mind the benefits that they have reported for the serious patients has been thoroughly demonstrated.
Objective: To date the approaches of admission of the patient in intensive and intermediate care units.
Method: A qualitative investigation (action investigation) was carried out; it was developed in three stages.
Results: At "Gustavo Aldereguia" Hospital, taking into account some observations, a systematic revision is necessary in order to join approaches on whose would be more benefited with these services. Initially by means of a technical group the bases for elaboration the approaches were defined. In a second stage by means of the technique of nominal groups, the approaches of entrance were defined, conforming a document validated by approach of experts (third stage) using the Delphi technique for which it was necessary three beats in order to achieve more than a 90% of agreement.
Conclusions: Starting from the carried out design a document was obtained where the approaches of admission in the serious attention units at "Gustavo Aldereguia Lima" Hospital in Cienfuegos were actualized, endowing to the center with a useful tool in the organization of the intensive medicine services. It also offers a series of recommendations or bases that should be keep in mind in the moment of defining the admission of a patient in a serious attention unit.
