Acquired hemophilia. A rare cause of obstetric hemorrhage

ABSTRACT

Acquired hemophilia is a rare autoimmune disease; about 7-14% of all cases occur in the postpartum period in which an auto antibody against factor VIII develops, presenting clinically with significant bleeding. Should be suspected if there is a normal platelet count, normal prothrombin time with prolongation of activated partial thromboplastin not corrected with plasma. The management of postpartum hemophilia aims to reduce bleeding to achieve a decrease of the mortality.
