Caracterización de pacientes en edad pediátrica con hipertensión arterial esencial. Estudio de cinco años

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Hypertension is less common in children than in adults, and the consequences are very serious; that is why it is recognized as a global public health problem, so early diagnosis is imperative.
Objective: To characterize pediatric patients with essential hypertension treated at Cardiology and Nephrology consults.
Materials and Methods: An observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study in a universe of 322 patients with essential hypertension who attended consultations of Cardiology and Nephrology, at the University Pediatric Hospital "José Luis Miranda"Results: The most affected age group was 13-18 years, with 150 patients, and males were predominant. 193 patients were controlled with diet and exercise, an important part of the total number, 129 patients needed drug treatment. The average diastolic blood pressure numbers were higher in the group that was receiving drug treatment., from January 2009 to December, 2013.

Conclusions: The age group of 13-18 years, male gender, family history of pathological Essential hypertension and overweight were factors that were associated with patients with essential hypertension.
