ABSTRACT

Introduction: There are several tools to assess the risk of high blood pressure that can have a person knowing the risk factors and protection to which it is exposed.
Objective: To determine the short-term risk of hypertension among sophomores Cuban second year medical students.
Materials and Methods: A descriptive, transverse study was carried out to 60 supposedly healthy second year medical students of the Villa Clara Faculty in order to determine the risk of developing hypertension after 1, 2 and 4 years.
Results: The results show that although the risk is low in 90% of cases and moderate or high in the rest, about 43% of systolic / diastolic pressure is over 120/80, which are classified as pre-hypertensive, with a higher risk optimal risk profile and thereby possible to develop the disease in the longer term.
Conclusions: The short-term risk of developing hypertension in the majority of students is under investigation. However a high number of students in the category of prehypertension.
