ABSTRACT

Solid organ transplantation is now a feasible alternative for patients with chronic degenerative diseases such as chronic kidney disease in advanced stages. Psychology is a science that has had little or no participation in the care of the psychopathologies and social issues that may interfere with the survival of the patient or the graft, as well as affect the quality of life of transplant recipients. Timely identification of pre- and post-transplant psychopathologies is of great importance in treating such patients through psychotherapeutic intervention and, thus, contributing to their survival. This work provides a thorough review of the psychological aspects of renal transplant recipients.
