Anti-phospholipidic antibodies, protein Z.

ABSTRACT

Protein Z (PZ) constitutes a plasmatic protein, vitamin K dependent. It joins thrombin, promoting its link to phospholipidic vesicles, getting joined by itself to these surfaces in the presence of calcium. We have measured plasmatic PZ concentration in patients with anti- phospholipidic (aPL) antibodies. 53 patients with aPL were studied, 33 of them were given, besides PZ, antiprothrombin antibodies (anti-II) and antibeta 2 glicoprotein 1 (ab2GP1). The test group was composed by 36 normal people. Patients with aPL presented diminished levels of PZ, with a statistical significance of p ‹ 0.0001. Levels of PZ were found to be diminished, apart from the presence or absence of anti-II or antibeta 2 glicoprotein. We conclude that patients with aPL present decreased levels of plasmatic PZ, without any relationship with antigenic specificity of antiphospholipidic antibodies. It is already unknown if this alteration may be due to a quick protein depuration, to its synthesis inhibition or to specific anti-Pz antibodies presence.
