Serologic behavior of the sexual contacts of seroreactive pregnant women

ABSTRACT

Introduction: the serologic reaction venereal disease research laboratory, for the diagnosis of syphilis, continuous being an important tool of utilization for the study of pregnant women and her partners. For this reason an analysis of the serologic results of the sexual contacts of all pregnant women is performed, specifically the sexual contacts of seroreactive pregnant women, the number of these seroreactive cases and the possible causes during a five-year period.
Objective: to analyze the serologic behavior of all sexual contacts of seroreactive pregnant women.
Methods: a retrospective, descriptive, lapsic investigation was performed on the sexual contacts of the pregnant women who were studied during a five-year period at “Flores Betancourt” Teaching Polyclinic, of Artemisa. The sample was composed of the total of contacts of seroreactive pregnant women. Discontinuous variables were used: non-seroreactive pregnant women, seroreactive pregnant women, non-seroreactive sexual contact, seroreactive sexual contact, sick seroreactive sexual contact.
Results: there were 12 reactive serologies in pregnant women during the fiveyear period studied, with 5 seroreactive sexual contacts, for a 0,03 %. 0,35 periodic prevalence rate of seroreactive sexual contacts in five years. 80 % corresponded with seroreactive sexual contacts without relation with recent syphilis and 20% corresponded with new cases of syphilis.
Conclusions: the number of seroreactive sexual contacts is notably lower, with regard to the number of seroreactive pregnant women. The existent quantity of seroreactive sexual contacts with regard to the total of sexual contacts found from seroreactive pregnant women is a lot lower to the one expected. The percentage of seroreactive sexual contacts that relate directly with a recent luetic illness is significantly low.
