ABSTRACT

Introduction: the scientific publications continue to be an unsolved challenge, in the field of the Medical Sciences in Cuba and in Mayabeque province.
Objective: to explore some characteristics of the scientific publications in a group of health professionals of Mayabeque province.
Methods: a descriptive and transversal study was performed in 73 professionals of the health of the distinct levels of attention of Mayabeque province, who were applied a survey designed by the authors between July 2013 and 2014.
Results: 64,4 % of the respondents have published articles, and out of these, only 25,5 % more than 10. The number of publications related directly with the age of the professionals and the time of graduation. Those that had already published expressed more motivations to continue publishing. 38,4 % of the respondents expressed that they did not have insufficiencies or obstacles to attain it, and these were more frequent in those that had not published. Although 50 % of the professionals referred to have received courses in this regard the almost whole informed that it needed others.
Conclusions: it is concluded that it is insufficient the number of scientific publications in the health professionals polled in Mayabeque province. The same manifest that they need more training in this regard.
