ABSTRACT

Though rare, when a lipoma does appear in the oral cavity it is usually located on the labial mucosa, the tongue or the floor of the mouth. Lipomas are benign neoplasms with a low potential for malignization. They are most frequently found on the head and neck (13% of all lipomas) and are the most common soft-tissue mesenchymal lesion in 40- to 60-year-old males. Due to the fact that few papers have studied this specific localization, we present the case of a 24-year-old male with a lipoma of the floor of the mouth diagnosed and treated at the clinic of the post-graduate degree in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Autonomous University of Ciudad Juárez.
