ABSTRACT

The prevalence of Gastroesophagic Reflux Disease (GERD) has been increasing worldwide and it is the most frecuent gastrointestinal disorder [2]. Heartburn and regurgitation are the most common symptoms that pacients present [3]. Manifestations have to be well recognized by the doctor and make the diferente between gastroesophagic reflux (GER) and GERD to make the correct decision of the treatment [4]. GER and GERD are common conditions in children that bring economic and health problems for parents and society, more likely for incorrect diagnostics and inadecuate use of drugs [7]. The first line therapy in GER and GERD are lifestyle changes and is the indicated in patients with uncomplicated physiologic reflux [4]. Medical treatment is based in acid supression [3]. The proton pump inhibitors therapy is the most safety and effective drug therapy and it is used in children that recquire medication because of the symptoms and they beneficiate a lot [2].
