ABSTRACT

Ghrelin is a hunger regulating peptide hormone mainly produced in the fundus of the stomach, which increases significantly in diet-induced weight-loss. Weight reduction achieved by dieting, exercise, or medical therapy often elicits compensatory changes in appetite and energy. In contrast, gastric bypass surgery, in which most of the stomach and duodenum are bypassed with the use of a gastrojejunal anastomosis, typically causes substantial, long-term weight loss.
