Surgical treatment of pitted acne scars

ABSTRACT

Background: acne scars are treated with diffe rent surgical procedures.
Objectives: to evaluate the treatment of post-acne scars.
Material and methods: patients with acne scars were selected for this study rulling out those with active lesions, hipertrophic or keloids scars or patients under oral treat ment with isotretinoin. The type of surgical procedure depended on the size and form of the scar.
Results: 27 patients were treated. 88.8% with scars in acylindrical form with subcision: excellent results in 54.16% and good results in 45.84%. With dermal im plants in 16 lesions: excellent results in 44%, good in 18.75% and bad in 37.5%. With surgical excision in 37 lesions: excellent results in 32%, good in 59% and bad in 9%. Lifting them up with a punch were done in 74 lesions: excellent result in 65% and good in 35%.
Conclusions: in acne for the rectangular scars and the pitted ones, the best results were done lifting them with a punch or with surgical excision; quite different from the dermal implant, in which almost 40% developed cysts. The treatment with subcision for the cylindrical scars is safe.
