ABSTRACT

Objective. To present the results of flat foot surgical treatment by an expansion endorthesis in the tarsal canal. Material and methods. A series of 16 children of both genders, aged 6 to 14 years, were operated on both feet by an expansion endorthesis because of simple and elastic flat foot, for a whole 32 feet. All cases had had previous treatment by diverse in-soles as a criterion for inclusion. Results. Clinical and radiological results demonstrated full correction in the feet of 14 out of the 16 operated on patients. An average X-ray correction of 30 degrees in dorsal projection was obtained at the talus-first metatarsal angle as well as 40 degrees in the lateral view for the Costa-Bertani angle. Average operating time was 16 minutes. Conclusion. This is a safe and simple procedure that enhances a good correction of flat foot, without a true arthrodesis or anything that meant a definitive invasion to the child’s skeleton.
