ABSTRACT

In general surgery service of the Instituto de Salud del Estado de México, Hospital General “La Perla” we studied the relationship of the variables in male patients: Urgent open cholecystectomy, gallbladder findings during surgery: (hidrocolecisto, piocolecisto, gangrene of the gallbladder and biliary acute pancreatitis); the above pathologies are complications secondary to bladder obstruction by gallstones which induced severe inflammation. Other studies have reported these complications associated to male patients. This is a case-control study in which accumulated cases in three consecutive years were reviewed. Nine patients were operated on a scheduled open cholecystectomy (15%), which represent the monitoring cases. Likewise: 46 (85%) patients undergoing urgent cholecystectomy represent the integrated cases. With the data obtained frequency analysis was performed using an SPSS program. General complications were development in 44 patients(80%). Gallbladder complication as piocolecisto occurred more frequently.
Thus we observed two associated variables: emergency surgery and complicated cholecystitis (empyema, hydrops or gangrene of the gallbladder and biliary pancreatitis) related to the male gender.
