ABSTRACT

Introduction: Heart transplantation is the treatment of choice for heart failure when it is estimated that the survival and quali­ty of life can not be improved with conventional treatments, this study case is a 56 year old woman diagnosed with restrictive cardiomyopathy endomyocardial fibrosis unspecified type, who is a heart transplant performed at the National Institute of Cardiology Ignacio Chavez, from the previous step until the first days after the Surgical Intensive Care. Objective: To develop a case study that promotes major nursing care to meet the needs of the person in cardiac transplantation. Methodology: Based on a comprehensive assessment method nurse and a focused applies; the stages of diagnosis, planning, intervention and evalua­tion, according to Institutional Care Model, which is based on the Nursing Care Process and the theory of Virginia Henderson 14 needs develop. Results: Nursing diagnoses were obtained: decreased cardiac output, and risk of injury; with the implementation of care plans evolution of person is satisfactory. Conclusion: The application of nursing process is the appropriate methodology for the holistic care of the person in the immediate posoperative period of cardiac transplantation.
