ABSTRACT

Background: Old age is conceived as an irreversible involute process in which the stomatology care plays a fundamental role. Objective: To identify the knowledge, attitudes, and the buccal hygiene before and after the application of an educative program in adult people in a doctor´s house of the family in the north area in Sancti Spiritus. Methodology: A study of the educative intervention was done in the period from April 2009 to 2001.The sample was composed by 85 patients. The variables were sex, age, knowledge, attitudes and buccal hygiene. Structures surveys were applied and also was used the index of buccal hygiene degree, the educative program ¨ Healthy Smile Forever¨, the observation, collected information in a gathering model of information and a descriptive statistic. Results: The level of knowledge were insufficient when diagnosing the sample, with a 69.4 % , and was gotten an increase toward an average knowledge with a 50.6 % after the educative program intervention, where the 66.6 % made a correct buccal hygiene, increasing the number of persons with favorable attitudes. Conclusions: Was proved that with the use of an educative program in adult people their knowledge, attitudes, and the buccal hygiene can be modified in these.
