ABSTRACT
Background: Hospitalized patients are at risk of deterioration and may be meritorious of intensive care. Their detection depends on adequate monitoring of their conditions. There are few useful clinical scales for this issue.
Objective: To propose a simple routine scale for the activation a “rapid response team”. Achieving its validity.
Methods: A scale for the aforementioned purpose was designed and a validity test with a 25 expert team was conducted. It ended with the consensus of more than 80% of the team.
Results: A clinical scale with 11 clinical items was proposed (heart rate, systolic blood pressure, capillary filling time, water load requirement, respiratory rate, breathing pattern, oxygen saturation, level of consciousness or appearance, preexisting chronic disease and temperature). At the end of the process a 94% approval was reached.
Conclusions: Upon our proposal “Severity scale for activation of a quick response team in children (EsGrAvE)” has shown acceptance by experts, although its predictive validation is still needed.
