Amebic liver abscess.

ABSTRACT

The amebiasis is a cosmopolitan parasitosis, caused by the protozoan Entamoeba histolytica, typical of developing countries. Your liver complication occurs frequently in adults; in children is rarely seen as the present case. It is characterized by pain, hepatomegaly, abdominal distension and intermittent fever. Diagnosis by ultrasonography (USG) abdomen, abdominal computed tomography (CT) and serological tests are corroborated. Currently, treatment with nitroimidazoles are the drugs of choice for amebic liver abscess. Case report: Male 1 year 4 months, he presented abdominal pain, intermittent fever one week of evolution, is performed abdominal ultrasound than reported abdominal tumor, probable abscess. Treatment was initiated with ceftriaxone, is performed tomography of the abdomen, is found right lobe with multiple hypodense images of regular edges, no evidence of free fluid in the abdominal cavity or pleural level. Metronidazole is added, there was no extrahepatic complications, did not require surgical treatment, evolves successfully. The patient was discharged, under surveillance.
