ABSTRACT

Introduction: laryngeal tuberculosis is a relatively rare complication associated with granulomatous lung involvement. It was a common cause of tuberculosis in past decades, with approximately 70% mortality before the onset of tuberculosis treatment. The incidence of laryngeal tuberculosis remained in decline for the past 30 years, reaching 20% due to the progress of the diagnostic and specific treatment. However, there has been a relative increase of this way of presentation, to the extent that currently corresponds to the most frequent granulomatous disease of the larynx. Clinical case: it is presented the case of a 48-year-old white male, smoker and inmate patient who was diagnosed with laryngeal tuberculosis by the Otolaryngology Service from “Dr. Antonio Luaces Iraola” Universitary Hospital in Ciego de Ávila. The patient had no symptoms to guide the diagnosis and it was in the larynx where the first tuberculosis lesion was located, different from what some authors discussed.
