Characterization of the work accidents in a hospital of high level from the region of Antioquia , Colombia

ABSTRACT

This is a characterization the work accidents in a hospital of high level from Antioquia. Retrospective descriptive study, the population of study consisted of 586 workers diverse professions and the information obtained from the work accidents registration. It reports 261 cases of work accidents, the tax incidence for 2009, 2010 and 2011 it calculated in 10,6 %, 11,4 % and 22,5 % respectively. The average of age of the people that presented the contingency was of 47,2 years. Type of accident, 37,8 % classified as of biological risk,37,5 % by mechanical risk and 24,5 % by physical risks. The parts of the body most affected were: the hands 44%, the upper members 25%, multiple location 13 %, the inferior members 12 % and trunk 6 %. The areas of the hospital with greater percentage of work accidents were hospitalization 33 %, outpatient services 18 %, surgical clinical processes 15 % and the remaining percentage in the different administrative processes. The most common types of accidents in the hospital of high complexity corresponded to punctures, followed by trauma and stab wounds, with the technical and nursing assistants most affected charges, these findings provide preliminary evidence to improve and reduce the work accidents and establish a policy on the prevention of occupational hazards in the hospital sector.
