ABSTRACT

Lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM) is a rare disease that exclusively affects women. It is characterized by the abnormal proliferation of atypical smooth muscle cells, which gradually occlude airways, and lymphatic and blood vessels. A case of a 32-year Mexican female, with a history of recurrent bilateral pneumothorax is presented. The thorax CT scan revealed numerous thin-walled cystic lesions throughout both lung fields. Lung biopsy specimens evaluated by immunohistochemical staining contained LAM cells that were positive for HMB-45.
