ABSTRACT

The word naevus means «birthmark» in Latin; its appearance is caused by the accumulation of melanocytes in the epidermis, dermis, or both, secondary to an altered proliferation of nevus cells. Melanoma is a malignant tumor originated from melanocytes; its incidence associated with nevus goes from 20 to 50%.
