psoriasis, hyperuricemia, uric acid.

ABSTRACT

Since 1958, the study of hyperuricemia in patients with psoriasis has been controversial. Currently, this hiperuricemia should be monitored for diminish complications related to the elevation of uric acid such as: further evolution of asymptomatic hyperuricemia to clinical variants of gout (arthritis, tophi, ureteral stones), predisposition to the development of psoriatic arthritis by joint cross reactivity to amorphous urate crystals and increased cardiovascular risk. These findings suggest the need for uric acid measurement in patients with newly diagnosed psoriasis and regular check up to assess the improvement and evolution of the disease. The research of hyperuricemia in psoriasis is promising as prognostic scale and cardiovascular and renal risk prediction can be obtained.
