Impact of music therapy as sensorial, social, cognitive and motor stimulation in children with neurological deficit in Mexico

ABSTRACT
The use of different components of music implies benefits in children with neurological deficit in rehabilitation.
Objective: Know the impact of music therapy as sensorial, social, cognitive and motor stimulation on patients with damage or neurological risk at the Centro de Rehabilitación Infantil Teletón Occidente.
Method: Prospective study with musical intervention quasi experimental and auto control, with signed informed consent. Maturing development was evaluated through Portage Guide before and after, the musical program lasted 16 sessions of 30 minutes each, twice a week. Analyzed with t Student and ANOVA.
Results: There were 82 children included with damage or neurological risk with an average chronological age of 18.39 ± 8.0 months and a madurative average age of 10.72 ± 5.0 months; who were etiological diagnosed with prematurity 47.6%, asphyxia 25.6%, danger factors17.1%, genetically 6.1% and meningitis 3.7%. After the program application the children had statistically significant difference in sensorial profile 18.84%, socialization 18.39%, cognition 25.5% and motor development 21.25%.
Conclusion: The music therapy program applied in rehabilitation of children with damage or neurological risk will favor the results.
