Care offered to adult people. Effectiveness of an educational program at the Polyclinic III in Manzanillo

ABSTRACT

Introduction: aging is not a disease; it is a multifactorial process that is defined as the progressive loss of functions, accompanied by an increase of morbidity and a reduced fertility with advancing age.
Objective: to evaluate the integral care provided to the elderly and the effectiveness of the program at the primary health level.
Method: it was carried out an analytical observational cross-sectional study at the Polyclinic "René Vallejo Ortiz" in the municipality of Manzanillo, Granma province. The statistics of the health area of the elderly program, and the family and medical records were analyzed. The data were processed in a computerized way and there were used the descriptive, inferential statistics and the proportions to corroborate the statistical hypothesis.
Results: prevailing the elderly population of females between 60 to 69 years with hypertension and diabetes mellitus. It was found a high prevalence of non transmitted chronic diseases. Influenza vaccination reached only 98.8%, even with 100% availability of the vaccine. Conclusions: it was evidenced a significant increase in the number of frail elderly, with technical assistance based on glasses and dental prosthesis and it was emphasized in the incorporation to institutions or community groups the affiliation to the elderly house.
